YUMは、RHEL システムで提供されているパッケージをインストール、アンインストール、検索するためのツールです。YUM は単にパッケージをインストールしたりアンインストールしたりするだけではありません。
YUMは、パッケージの依存関係を自動的にインストールします。たとえば、yumを使ってhttpdをインストールすると、apacheサーバーとその依存関係もインストールされます。rpm を使ってパッケージをインストールする場合、依存するパッケージをすべてダウンロードしてから順番にインストールしなければならないので、これは便利ではありません。
